Member Huang Renjun of popular South Korean boy band NCT DREAM, who hails from China, temporarily halted his activities in April due to poor health. In the early hours of the 11th, he revealed on the platform bubble that he has long been harassed by “sasaeng fans” (overly intrusive fans who invade artists’ private lives). He stated that if the invasion of his privacy continues, he will take legal action against these individuals.
In a lengthy post on bubble while chatting with fans, Renjun expressed his frustration at not being able to speak publicly and feeling stifled. He admitted that despite suffering from panic disorder and depression, he endured it to not affect his fellow members until he collapsed, leading to the decision to take a break for his well-being, done out of necessity.
During his rest period, in an effort to heal faster, Renjun had gone to an amusement park but was disheartened to see comments claiming that he couldn’t be sick if he was out having fun. He questioned whether sick individuals were expected to stay confined in their rooms, feeling depressed, and crying all the time. His goal is to recover quickly to rejoin NCT DREAM’s activities with the members, thus engaging in activities that help him heal. However, despite these efforts, his private schedule continued to be disrupted by sasaeng fans.
Renjun recounted an incident on a plane where a sasaeng fan sitting next to him secretly took photos of him sleeping and boldly denied following him when confronted. Baffled by how these individuals obtained his flight information, he felt immense pressure from their extreme adoration towards him.
Moreover, he mentioned receiving numerous phone calls that day, initially thinking they were delivery personnel, only to find NCT members’ photos as the caller ID, making him question the “coincidence.” Regardless of the callers’ age, Renjun vowed not to spare those who invade his privacy and was prepared to take legal action through his lawyer against such individuals, urging them to redirect their time and passion elsewhere.
Renjun emphasized that if these individuals occasionally listened to NCT DREAM’s songs, their relationship with NCT DREAM and NCTzens (official fan club’s nickname) could still be great. However, when it comes to personal privacy invasion, he would wage war against these individuals, ensuring they faced consequences. The company had also taken measures for this, hoping for maintaining positive relationships and cherishing good memories.
He clarified that his statements were not directed at regular NCTzens (fans), but as a warning to those engaging in illegal activities that harm NCT DREAM.
Furthermore, he disclosed the phone numbers of the sasaeng fans who persistently called him, believing that making them experience what he went through could set them straight. However, despite his efforts, Renjun lamented that these sasaeng fans continued their actions, feeling helpless. He stated firmly that he would not let the situation persist.
Although bubble is a paid chatting platform, typically, the content produced by artists on the platform should not be leaked. However, Renjun, after sharing his situation with fans that day, specifically requested “please spread the word.” He also repeatedly sought understanding from fans that his disclosure that day was due to overwhelming frustration and distress, urging not only fans to spread his message but also various South Korean media outlets reported on Renjun’s statements, hoping sasaeng fans would cease harassing artists’ private lives, with fans from around the world expressing well wishes for Renjun’s speedy recovery.
