On the occasion of the 36th anniversary of June 4th, the China Democracy Party and several other groups held a large parade in Midtown Manhattan, New York on June 3rd, marching from 33rd Street in Manhattan to the Chinese Consulate to protest against the bloody crackdown on the student movement on June 4th, 1989 by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and to denounce the tyranny of the CCP. Over two hundred members chanted along the way: “Down with the Chinese Communist Party! Eliminate the Chinese Communist Party!”
This is one of the events in the series of commemorations by the China Democracy Party this year. On May 31st and June 2nd, they held large-scale parades and rallies in Washington DC and the Flushing Chinatown community in New York. They stated that the reason for continuing the march in Manhattan was to make the world hear the voice of the Chinese people.
The young members of the China Democracy Party, dressed uniformly, held up large banners in both Chinese and English, marching in a neat formation from Greeley Square near the Empire State Building in Manhattan, along the bustling Broadway, 42nd Street, all the way to the Chinese Consulate, passing by landmarks like Times Square, chanting slogans along the way, attracting many onlookers taking photos and videos. After the parade, they continued the protest rally in front of the Chinese Consulate.
Chairman of the China Democracy Party Wang Juntao marched within the crowd. In an interview, he stated that this year’s memorial activities are not just about “reflecting on June 4th” – he does not agree with discussing who was right or wrong at that time, but believes actions should be taken to overthrow the tyranny of the CCP. He said, “Intellectual discussions enlighten the people, which is important for the construction after the founding of the country or during the transition period, but to make a tyranny hand over power, it mainly relies on street actions.”
“Action creates transformation, action creates history, action produces heroes. We must take action to gather more people together to resist the CCP and overthrow its tyranny.”
Wang Juntao expressed hope that this large-scale protest against the CCP could spread to mainland China – more and more Chinese people are becoming hopeless about the Communist Party. In the past, they only focused on protecting their own specific interests and did not dare to touch the political system of the CCP. In recent years, many Chinese people have realized that they cannot solve problems through “legal” means and only by overthrowing the tyranny of the CCP can problems be resolved and everyone’s interests be dealt with fairly.
The young members of the Democracy Party raised their arms and chanted slogans along the way, shaking the streets of Manhattan. Former professional whistleblower from mainland China, Xu Jiang, stated that he used to frequently sue the government and illegal businesses, so he has a certain understanding of the corruption and operation of the CCP system. “The root of China’s problems lies in the system itself, not individual corrupt officials; the CCP regime is like a tumor, its oppression exists universally in all levels of society, both among the common people and officials are helpless; under this system, no one can escape its manipulation.”
“The people marching here today are Chinese who have suffered oppression and escaped from China. Each person who stands up has a heavy story.”
Xu Jiang said, “I hope the international community will no longer trade with the CCP, as trading with the CCP only helps to perpetuate oppression. I hope that this kind of protest and march will be transmitted back to the mainland, bringing inspiration to the oppressed people, giving them hope.”
Former mainland human rights activist Ni Jinfang also expressed that the CCP deceives the international community with lies and suppresses the voices of the Chinese people with violence; not only does it exert high-pressure rule domestically, it also implements speech control and infiltration internationally.
He said: The China Democracy Party’s grand parade is to hope for the support of the United States and the international community for the Chinese democracy movement, while also reminding the American people to recognize the harm that the CCP poses to America and the world, and to combat the CCP’s infiltration and the threat it poses to global freedom.
