Remembering the 35th Anniversary of June Fourth: An Icelandic Democratic Activist Protests in Front of the Chinese Embassy

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square incident on June 4th. Commemorative activities are taking place globally, with on June 3rd, Nordic democratic activist Zhou Feng holding a protest in front of the Chinese consulate in Iceland. He stated, “We commemorate ‘June 4th’ not to sow hatred, but to pursue truth and justice, ensuring that every life and voice is respected.”

Zhou Feng protested the 35th anniversary of the “June 4th” massacre by the Chinese Communist Party in front of the Chinese consulate in Iceland under the banner of “Never forget ‘June 4th,’ investigate the virus” (COVID-19). He believed that the Chinese Communist Party’s concealment and distortion of history regarding the June 4th event signifies a resistance against oppression and injustice, stating, “Only when we confront history can we possibly build a more equitable and just society in the future.”

Since the outbreak of the CCP virus (COVID-19) from Wuhan in November 2019, the Chinese Communist Party has repeatedly concealed the epidemic, covered up the virus’s origins, resulting in a global pandemic infecting over 3 million people and causing over 200,000 deaths. The CCP has also engaged in a misinformation campaign, attempting to lead the global efforts against the pandemic.

After years of investigation, on April 14, 2020, over a hundred Chinese experts, scholars, and politicians globally, at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute in Canada, issued a statement saying, “The CCP’s cover-up of the CCP virus (COVID-19) epidemic is a major reason for the pandemic outbreak.”

Zhou Feng stated, “During the ‘June 4th’ incident, the Chinese Communist Party brutally suppressed peaceful student and civilian demonstrators and attempted to erase that history, block relevant information. Similarly, in the early stages of the epidemic, they suppressed information, silenced doctors and journalists trying to expose the truth, missed the best opportunity to control the epidemic, leading to the rapid spread of the virus, causing a massive disaster worldwide.”

“The CCP’s concealment of the epidemic’s origin mirrors their cover-up of the ‘June 4th’ incident. Both reflect the CCP’s suppression of truth and disregard for human life. Whether it’s the ‘June 4th’ massacre or covering up of the epidemic, the CCP attempts to conceal the truth, control information to maintain the stability of their regime, ignoring the values of truth and justice.”

“These two events demonstrate the CCP’s consistent tactics: covering up the truth, suppressing dissent, and disregarding human life. Although 35 years have passed since the ‘June 4th’ incident, the CCP still tries to erase that bloody history. Likewise, in covering up the epidemic’s origins, they continue to control information, attempting to evade responsibility,” he said.

Since late May, demands from the U.S. media and scientific community for further investigation into whether and how the novel coronavirus leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology have grown stronger.

While Zhou Feng has not experienced the ‘June 4th’ incident firsthand, his attention and research on the event have never ceased. He said, ” ‘June 4th’ is an important event in modern Chinese history. Although I have not experienced it personally, through reading numerous books, watching documentaries, and interacting with participants at that time, I have gained a deep understanding and awareness of that history.”

“‘June 4th’ is not just a student movement but a movement about democracy, freedom, and human rights. Although it ended in tragedy, it embodies the Chinese people’s desire and pursuit for fairness and justice. The warriors of the ‘June 4th’ incident, their bravery and sacrifices, are etched in our hearts. Their spirit inspires us to continue striving for democracy and human rights.”

He expressed, “Commemorating ‘June 4th’ is not just to mourn those who lost their lives in the incident but also to remind us to never forget history, continue seeking truth and justice. The significance of commemorating ‘June 4th’ lies in preserving the memory of history, preventing history from repeating itself, and also showing the world our unwavering pursuit of democracy, human rights, and freedom. ‘June 4th’ commemorations allow the younger generation to understand the truth of history, inspiring them to strive for a better future. It is not just a reflection on the past but also a hope and promise for the future.”

Zhou Feng emphasized his hope that through this event, more people would awaken, urging the international community to jointly strive for truth and justice, prevent the CCP from once again concealing history and the truth.
