The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) conferences were held this month to address issues related to climate action and global law enforcement cooperation in response to common challenges such as climate change and transnational crimes. Representatives from various countries gathered to discuss these crucial topics.
The Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, Mr. Ji Qin-yao, wrote an article published by the Beacon Media News, calling for international support for Taiwan’s participation in these conferences. Despite Taiwan being excluded from UNFCCC, it has set forth goals for green growth and a transition to net-zero emissions by 2050 to enhance its climate resilience.
As globalization accelerates the development of transnational crimes, Taiwan’s inability to participate in INTERPOL has hampered the overall effectiveness of combating cross-border crimes. According to the 2025 Numbeo Global Database, Taiwan ranks fourth among the safest countries globally, showcasing its robust crime prevention capabilities.
Mr. Ji Qin-yao urged for support for Taiwan’s participation in UNFCCC and INTERPOL to establish a compatible and secure international cooperation framework.
The Beacon Media News, founded in 1996, is a prominent local media group in Southern California. The article was published in 21 newspapers under its umbrella, reaching over 310,000 readers across various cities.
