The upcoming “5th NTD International Photography Competition” has seen enthusiastic participation in the registration process. As of now, entries have been submitted from nearly 200 countries and regions across the five continents. The organizers have announced that notifications for the selected entries will be sent out by the end of October.
The NTD International Photography Competition is part of a series of international art and cultural events organized by NTD Television. The competition aims to facilitate cultural and artistic exchanges among photography enthusiasts worldwide, promote traditional values and aesthetics, and inspire positive and uplifting photographic creations.
According to Lucy Zhou, the director of the NTD competition, “There are still entries coming in, and we are trying our best to accommodate everyone for participation. The judges have noted that the quality of submissions this year is exceptionally high, and we will be sending out notifications for the selected entries by October 31.”
The competition seeks to revive traditional aesthetic principles by showcasing goodwill, beauty, brightness, and natural states. It also aims to uphold cultural heritage and provide photographers with a global platform to showcase their talents and share their visual creations with a wider audience.
“We are committed to restoring traditions and reclaiming traditional aesthetics,” said Lucy Zhou. “Photographic works are visual creations that possess the power to transcend time and culture. Therefore, beautiful photography can evoke positive, bright, uplifting, and warm feelings in people.”
Entries will be categorized into “Social and Humanitarian Works” and “Scenery and Nature Works,” with three new special awards introduced this year: Best Chinese Photographer Award, Best Sports Work Award, and Best Commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the Founding of the United States Award.
Renowned photographer and competition judge Dai Bing stated that photography is not just visual imagery but also a language that can communicate.
“Photography itself is a language. As a photographer, when you capture an image, you infuse it with your emotions,” he explained. “Therefore, the artwork itself carries emotions and can express beauty, tranquility, and aesthetic values that are universally appreciated.”
The judging criteria will assess entries based on themes, composition, and technical aspects. Moderate post-processing is allowed, but any additions or alterations to the content are strictly prohibited.
Dai Bing emphasized, “Adjusting brightness, colors, and saturation is permissible. However, extensive modifications such as adding or removing elements using AI technology are not allowed because you must preserve the original integrity and authenticity of your work. You are judged based on your photographic skills, not on what AI can create.”
Each category will feature one Gold Award (total of 2), each receiving $5,000 or equivalent in photography equipment/products/certificates. Two Silver Awards (total of 4), each receiving $2,500 or equivalent in photography equipment/products/certificates, and three Bronze Awards (total of 6), each receiving $1,000 or equivalent in photography equipment/products/certificates, will be given for each category. Moreover, ten Excellent Awards (total of 20), each receiving $300 or equivalent in photography equipment/products/certificates, will also be awarded per category.
The prize money for the three special awards is set at $2,000 each or equivalent in photography equipment/products/certificates.
The organizers disclosed that the award ceremony and exhibition of selected entries will take place in New York in January next year. The event will include an exhibition of the winning works and workshops conducted by master photographers.
