South Korean popular girl group Red Velvet celebrated their tenth anniversary this year and released a new album titled “Cosmic” on the 24th. On this occasion, they recorded a video greeting to their fans in Taiwan. When talking about their favorite Taiwanese cuisine, IRENE unexpectedly left everyone with a mystery.
The extraordinary meaning behind their tenth anniversary led Red Velvet to convey precious values, relationships, and various stories and emotions through their new work. They used cosmic-related elements as metaphors, incorporating keywords like stars, sun, and constellations.
Furthermore, for a group that has been in the industry for a decade, maintaining their distinctive characteristics is crucial. Members revealed that JOY put a lot of effort into the new album and even made a PowerPoint presentation to explain the future direction of the group to the members. Thanks to JOY, they were able to gather their ideas together. JOY stated, “While preparing for this album, I researched Red Velvet’s colors more seriously than ever before, wanting to incorporate all the joys and sorrows, as well as infinite love we have shared with fans over the past ten years into the album.”
The title track of the new album, “Cosmic,” is a vibrant pop dance tune that narrates the encounter of two individuals like lonely stars, destined to meet each other, learning about the infinite love as vast as the universe. Following the success of their previous track “Chill Kill,” renowned producer KENZIE collaborated once again with the Swedish composition team Moonshine to bring a unique summer sound. The music video for the new song is set against a summer festival backdrop, showcasing Red Velvet’s story of falling in love.
After the release of the new album “Cosmic,” it quickly topped the iTunes album charts in 41 regions, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Poland, Australia, Indonesia, India, Denmark, Malaysia, Macau, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Mexico, Brazil, and Turkey.
In a special greeting to their fans in Taiwan, SEULGI mentioned that the album reflects immense love for the fans, making all the members more attentive in creating meticulous results. WENDY described the title track “Cosmic” as a fairytale-like song and dedicated it to ReVeluv (official fan club) as their tenth-anniversary song.
Red Velvet kicked off their new album with plans to start their FANCON TOUR in August, engaging in various activities to commemorate their tenth anniversary with fans. Additionally, they are set to attend the “K-MEGA CONCERT IN KAOHSIUNG” event in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in July, where they expressed interest in trying various Taiwanese foods, including classic options like bubble tea, xiao long bao, and the enigmatic “round bread” mentioned by IRENE, leaving a puzzling question due to the lack of a specific name.
