When it comes to city safety, people think of incidents like shootings, thefts, vandalism, arson, as well as traffic accidents, public health, and natural disaster risks. In order to help people identify secure and enjoyable living spaces, WalletHub has compared over 180 cities in the United States based on 41 key safety indicators.
The report analyzes multiple aspects, from per capita traffic accident fatalities and assaults to unemployment rates and the proportion of uninsured populations, to determine which cities in America provide a relatively safe environment for residents.
WalletHub’s report points out that safety threats come in various forms. Apart from dangers that may cause physical harm, risks such as taking on unsustainable second mortgages, forgoing health insurance, or even visiting unsafe websites also expose people to danger.
According to WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo, “The safest cities in America not only protect residents from threats of bodily harm and property loss but also ensure their financial security. Financial security involves minimizing risks of fraud and identity theft, ensuring employment and insurance coverage for the population, and reducing homelessness.”
However, no one can completely avoid all risks, and the risks we face depend on the choice of where we live. Some cities perform exceptionally well in safeguarding residents’ safety.
WalletHub’s survey data has identified the cities where Americans feel relatively safest. The data provided in the survey covers a wide range of factors, including per capita traffic death rates, number of assault incidents, unemployment rates, and the proportion of uninsured populations, offering a comprehensive evaluation of the safety conditions in various cities.
