Rainie Yang’s Birthday Coincides with Sensitive “June Fourth”, Li Ronghao Sends Blessings from Afar

On June 4th, mainland Chinese singer Li Ronghao celebrated his wife Rainie Yang’s birthday at midnight. He posted a cartoon photo of them together on Weibo with a caption saying, “She is my wife, and also my best friend. Happy birthday!”

Rainie Yang, a Taiwanese entertainer who has been residing in mainland China in recent years, turned 41 years old on June 4th. Interestingly, this day also marks the 36th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, a sensitive and taboo day for the Chinese Communist Party. Last year, Rainie Yang stirred up controversy among Taiwanese netizens by sharing a propaganda post from a Chinese state media outlet advocating for Taiwan to reunify with mainland China. This led to a backlash from Taiwanese internet users who flooded her Facebook and Instagram with criticisms. As a result, she restricted replies to her posts, leading to very few comments this year. Nevertheless, a few posts wishing her a happy birthday on June 4th could still be seen.

At the stroke of midnight, Rainie Yang’s Weibo account was flooded with blessings from thousands of Chinese netizens. Her singer husband Li Ronghao, for the 11th consecutive year, was quick to post on June 4th, sending wishes to his wife for a happy birthday and expressing his feelings with the words, “She is my wife, and also my best friend.” He attached a cartoon version of their photo, portraying a sweet moment between the two.

In the photo, their cute cartoon characters became the highlight, with Rainie Yang wearing a beret and pouting, while details like her gold earrings and facial moles were faithfully recreated. Rainie Yang shared the post on her Instagram stories with a caption saying, “Thank you, mister, feeling shy.” Fans commented, saying they look forward to Li Ronghao’s timely posts every year, with some also leaving messages wishing her a happy birthday on June 4th.

Rainie Yang and Li Ronghao were rumored to be dating in 2015 and officially confirmed their relationship in 2017, tying the knot two years later. On a previous episode of a mainland Chinese variety show called “Happy Camp,” Rainie Yang talked with Zhou Xun and Ada Choi about why she agreed to marry Li Ronghao. She revealed that despite Li Ronghao having a masculine and rough exterior, he is incredibly attentive and considerate. She emphasized her appreciation for his ability to remember her preferences, even for things she hasn’t tried, and how naturally he does so, ensuring that she would like it.
