In a recent incident at a liquor store in Virginia, the establishment fell victim to an unexpected heist. The culprit in this case didn’t target the cash register or valuable items but headed straight for the bottom shelves where the store kept its Scotch whiskey and bourbon. The result? Broken bottles littered the floor, painting a scene of chaos and indulgence. However, the perpetrator behind this “crime” wasn’t a human but a raccoon.
According to reports from the Associated Press, last Saturday morning (November 29th), an employee arriving for work at a liquor store in Ashland, Virginia, stumbled upon a raccoon fast asleep on the bathroom floor, clearly in a state of intoxication from its exploits.
Surveillance footage revealed that the raccoon had wreaked havoc upon entering the store, knocking things over and causing a mess. The broken bottles and spilled alcohol added to the disarray, transforming the once orderly store into a scene of disorder. The footage even captured the charming sight of the raccoon peacefully snoozing on the bathroom floor between the trash can and the toilet.
“I personally love raccoons,” said Samantha Martin, an official from the local animal control department. “They are such interesting little creatures. And once it fell from the ceiling, it went nuts and had a field day, drinking to its heart’s content.”
Martin proceeded to take the raccoon to an animal shelter, where she admitted to having several chuckles along the way.
The Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter commended Martin’s handling of the “breaking and entering” incident, confirming that the raccoon had since sobered up from its drinking spree.
After a few hours of rest, the shelter reported that aside from the intoxication, the raccoon showed no signs of injury. The organization made sure to mention that the raccoon was safely released back into the wild. They expressed hope that it had learned its lesson and understood that raiding a store was not the way to resolve any issues.
