Queen’s District Farm Museum Booth Supports Local Agriculture

With the arrival of summer, the Queens County Farm Museum’s farm produce booths are officially open for the season. Serving as a leader in locally grown products in New York City, the museum not only offers booths on-site but has also added multiple locations for farm produce booths, where customers can purchase the freshest, certified naturally grown products.

Executive Director David Hughes of the farm museum stated that the farm produce booths in Queens County are not just shopping venues, but also a celebration of the season’s harvest and local agriculture. It also helps to preserve New York City’s oldest continually cultivated land.

The farm produce booths offer locally grown fresh flowers that are harvested on the spot, and are sold through seasonal flower CSA projects (Community Supported Agriculture). In addition, the booths provide herb and vegetable seedlings suitable for home gardening, as well as farm-produced dried tea products. All farm produce from Queens County Farm is grown using organic methods for sustainable cultivation and holds the certification of “Certified Naturally Grown.”

In addition to homegrown fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, honey, and eggs, these booths also sell products from farms in other regions of New York State, extending the influence of New York State agriculture to the city’s communities. All booths accept credit cards, debit cards, and cash payments, and support various nutrition assistance programs such as SNAP/EBT benefits, WIC, FMNP checks, Health Bucks, and Fresh Connect checks. In an effort to promote community composting, the booths on-site accept food waste for recycling.

The museum is a cornerstone of New York City’s agricultural history, with a history of 328 years. As one of New York’s oldest continually cultivated lands, it attracts over 500,000 visitors annually to participate in its immersive agricultural, environmental conservation, and food justice programs. It provides education to over 40,000 New York City school children annually, plants over 40,000 pounds of fresh produce for underserved communities, and is dedicated to preserving the city’s agricultural heritage.
