Qiu Ze almost formed a boy band 20 years ago, and his former partner invited him to shoot a MV, which he immediately agreed to.

Taiwanese pop song king Chen Jian-wei and collaborator Ai Yi-liang have released a brand new single titled “Prejudice,” with the music video featuring Taipei Film Festival best actor Qiu Ze as the male lead. Joining them in the project is Japanese actress Tanaka Chiemi, who is well-known for her acting skills in Taiwan and performs entirely in Japanese. Chen Jian-wei couldn’t contain his excitement and exclaimed, “A dream come true!”

After a hiatus of nine years, Golden Melody award-winning singer Chen Jian-wei has unveiled his new single “Prejudice.” During a discussion about the inspiration behind the creation, it was revealed that last year, Chen Jian-wei’s song “Transformation” was nominated for Best Single Producer at the 34th Golden Melody Awards. When Ai Yi-liang accidentally misspoke while presenting the award, Chen Jian-wei’s witty response became a memorable highlight of last year’s awards ceremony, ultimately leading to their collaboration. The name “Prejudice” is a homonym of Chen Jian-wei’s name and served as the inspiration for their latest Mandarin duet love song “Prejudice.”

Qiu Ze mentioned that his decision to star in the music video for “Prejudice” was largely due to his past as a production assistant at the same record company as Chen Jian-wei twenty years ago. Although they were once part of a male group formed by the company and never officially debuted, the bond they shared during those times of struggle continues to this day.

Qiu Ze expressed, “I am very happy to be a part of Jian-wei’s work and to collaborate with Director Yan Zhen-hao once again. These two things made the day of shooting enjoyable for me.”

The music video for “Prejudice” marks the second collaboration between Qiu Ze and director Yan Zhen-hao following their film “When a Man Falls in Love,” showcasing their excellent rapport and making the shooting process very smooth.

Tanaka Chiemi, who plays the female lead in the music video, expressed her delight in working with Director Yan Zhen-hao. She mentioned that the emotionally layered storyline of the music video presented a challenge to convey a complete story within three minutes. Yet, the director’s storytelling ability combined with the actors’ solid and expressive performances ultimately resulted in a finalized music video that left everyone highly satisfied.

The plot of the “Prejudice” music video portrays the hierarchical relationship between a male and female character in a company setting, where Qiu Ze plays a department head who is underperforming while Tanaka Chiemi portrays a decisive higher executive struggling with complicated emotions towards the male lead.

Director Yan Zhen-hao deliberately chose to have the entire music video filmed in Japanese to create a Japanese-style atmosphere. Through this linguistic shift, the actors were immersed in a relatively subdued cultural ambiance, allowing them to delve deeper into their characters’ inner worlds.

Chen Jian-wei expressed his happiness by saying, “Being able to reunite with the director and male lead of ‘When a Man Falls in Love,’ along with Tanaka Chiemi’s exceptional performance, truly feels like a dream come true!”

Chen Jian-wei’s new song “Prejudice,” produced in collaboration with Ai Yi-liang, was released on all digital platforms on June 28th, simultaneously with the music video launch.
