Qingdao Woman Drives Range Rover to Cut Off Traffic and Rear-Ends Others, Sparking Controversy

Recently, in Qingdao, Shandong Province, a woman driving a Land Rover accidentally rear-ended a bus while trying to cut the queue. She then turned her rage towards Lin, the driver of the car who was driving correctly, and assaulted him, leaving the young man bloodied. While hitting him, the woman threatened, saying she was not afraid to call the police. The video of the incident has sparked widespread discussion on the internet.

According to a video taken by netizens at the scene, on the afternoon of the 28th, around 1 pm near the Qingshan Village Observation Deck in Laoshan District, a woman with long hair driving a white Land Rover was driving against traffic to cut the line. Lin, the driver of the oncoming vehicle who was driving in the right direction, did not yield to her. Due to the woman’s mistake in operation, she accidentally rear-ended the bus in front of her. She got out of the car and immediately started pushing and shoving staff members at the scenic spot.

Then, she turned to Lin’s car, even opening the door and slapping Lin repeatedly while scolding him: “What’s wrong with me driving against traffic? What’s wrong with me hitting you! Call the police if you dare, I won’t let you off!”

The man was slapped more than ten times, his face covered in blood, but he did not retaliate throughout the incident, only recording the woman’s violent actions with his phone.

The video shows that there was a child in the back seat of Lin’s vehicle, and after the incident, the woman drove away.

Afterwards, Lin, in an interview with Xinjing News, stated that as it was the peak tourist season, the road was congested at the time of the incident. “I was driving normally, but she (Wang) was driving against traffic the whole way and almost hit my car.” Because he did not give way to Wang, Wang got out of the car and verbally abused and physically assaulted him.

Lin also told Jupai News, “At first, she honked, wanting to merge into the adjacent lane. I also honked, but saw her cursing in her car, which angered me, so I didn’t let her. If she had asked nicely, I would have definitely yielded.”

After the video was released, it quickly topped the hot search list.

Following the circulation of the incident online, on the evening of August 29th, the Laoshan Branch of the Qingdao Public Security Bureau issued a notice stating that the woman who assaulted someone, Wang (38 years old, from Laoshan District), was detained for 10 days and fined 1,000 yuan.

The police’s notice sparked public backlash, with netizens criticizing the light punishment and suspecting that there must be someone behind the woman. “When I rode my motorcycle against traffic, the police fined me 1,500 yuan.” “It’s infuriating to see this; the punishment is also infuriating.” “How can a simple public security punishment be enough! This needs to go to court, a court ruling is necessary! Do an injury assessment, a disability assessment.”

One netizen even said, “There was a child in the car, the child will be left with psychological scars! Must be severely punished.”

Some netizens on social media exposed the woman’s identity: “Land Rover female driver Wang Hui, 38 years old, deputy director of the Urban Management Bureau in Laoshan District.” “Heard she is Wang Hui, in charge of the greening in Qingshan Village!” “Wang Hui, being exposed.”

Faced with public pressure, the Urban Management Bureau in Laoshan District responded, stating that the information circulating online about the woman’s identity was false.

However, netizens were not convinced: “I could tell she is a government official at a glance.” “She has connections.” “Looks like a big shot’s protected bird has flown out.”
