Qatar Airways flight encounters turbulence, 12 injured

On Sunday (May 26), Dublin Airport in Ireland reported that a Qatar Airways flight from Doha, the capital of Qatar, encountered turbulence during its journey to Ireland, resulting in 12 people being injured.

The airport stated that Flight QR017 was operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner and landed before 1 pm local time in Dublin.

“After the plane landed, emergency services including airport police, fire, and rescue personnel were on hand to assist. Due to turbulence encountered over Turkish airspace, 6 passengers and 6 crew members (12 in total) were injured,” Dublin Airport said.

According to the statement, 8 of the injured individuals were assessed and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Dublin Airport mentioned that they are providing assistance to passengers and staff, with airport operations unaffected. The return journey of the aircraft to Doha will proceed, but the departure time will be delayed.

Qatar Airways stated in a release that a few passengers and crew sustained minor injuries during the flight and are undergoing treatment. The airline did not provide direct comments on the turbulence incident but mentioned that an internal investigation will be conducted.

According to reports from RTE, passengers arriving at the airport indicated that the turbulence event lasted less than 20 seconds and occurred during the meal service.

Just a few days ago, a Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 from London Heathrow Airport to Singapore encountered severe turbulence, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. This incident resulted in one fatality and several injuries.
