Renowned Chinese chain home decor brand “Stylish Home” founder Zeng Yuzhou fell from a building in Guangzhou and passed away. Following his death, “Stylish Home” announced its closure, leading to numerous homeowners, suppliers, and others visiting related stores to safeguard their rights.
According to reports from several mainland Chinese media outlets, on the early morning of July 17th, Zeng Yuzhou, the 53-year-old founder of Stylish Home, fell from a building in the Tianhe District of Guangzhou and passed away. The police ruled out the possibility of a criminal case and deemed the incident related to “personal reasons,” without mentioning any issues related to business operations or external disputes.
Zeng Yuzhou was the founder and chairman of Stylish Home, as well as a member of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, the executive committee member of the Guangzhou Federation of Industry and Commerce, and had also served as the vice chairman of the Guangzhou Building Decoration Industry Association, among other social roles.
The day after the incident, a notice of closure from Stylish Home circulated within the industry.
The notice stated that due to the impact of the real estate industry on related companies of Stylish Home, continuous losses had led to insolvency. As a result, the company was unable to continue operating and made the decision to cease business operations with immediate effect. Creditors were urged to verify and confirm their debts with the relevant companies, with the company actively cooperating with the bankruptcy liquidation process.
Videos circulated online showing that many victims affected by Stylish Home’s closure visited related stores to safeguard their rights. One consumer posted on social media, “We’ve paid a large sum of money, and now the renovation has only reached halfway before halting. What should we do? How can we safeguard our rights?”
On July 19th, a senior executive from Stylish Home told the “Yangcheng Evening News,” “Starting from the 18th, all stores have ceased operations, even those that were profitable were uniformly closed.”
Around 10 a.m. on the same day, reporters from the “Daily Economic News” visited Stylish Home’s headquarters in the Tianhe District of Guangzhou and found the company’s glass doors tightly shut, with no one working inside. Many consumers and suppliers advocating for their rights were gathered downstairs. According to the property personnel of the building, several waves of suppliers had already visited the scene that morning.
A project manager who subcontracted renovation projects to Stylish Home stated that they had been working with the company for four years. They mentioned that the payment speed for projects had been slowing down over time, and they had considered discontinuing their collaboration after settling all accounts. However, the sudden turn of events caught them off guard.
Mr. Li from Huadu District in Guangzhou told “The Paper” that in March or April this year, his parents signed a renovation contract with Stylish Home’s Huadu store for a total of 150,000 RMB for both construction and cabinets. They had already paid around 140,000 RMB before the work commenced. On the morning of July 18th, workers were still renovating, but received a sudden notice to halt operations that afternoon. His parents rushed to the store and found more than twenty others also demanding rights protection, all feeling the closure was “very sudden.” Store staff informed them that the company’s headquarters suddenly announced the closure, leaving both employees and customers bewildered, unable to continue work until further instructions.
Several other individuals advocating for their rights also mentioned that they learned about Stylish Home’s closure on the afternoon of July 18th, with even construction workers participating in rights protection activities. On the evening of the 18th, many of them went to report the case, and “everyone was queuing up for record-taking.”
Reports indicate that the headquarters and numerous stores of Stylish Home in the Tianhe District of Guangzhou have all shut down. By the 19th, Stylish Home’s official website was inaccessible, displaying a message stating that “the site has been stopped by the administrator.”
Stylish Home, a well-known local brand in the Guangzhou home decor market, was founded in 2001, primarily offering core services in “overall design, building materials, furniture, home appliances, and smart technology.” At its peak in 2019, it had 100 direct-operated stores.
On July 21st, Stylish Home released a debt registration announcement on its official public account, stating that Stylish Home’s related companies ceased operation on July 18, 2025. Creditors were advised to register their debts at designated company contact points.
The debt registration notice by Stylish Home listed multiple registration points in Foshan, Shantou, Chaozhou, Puning, Jieyang, Meizhou, and other locations, dated July 20th.
Information from enterprise search platforms indicated that Stylish Home’s main companies included Guangzhou Stylish Home Decorative Materials Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Chuangcheng Decorative Materials Co., Ltd., and numerous related subsidiaries, involving various disputes such as decoration contracts and labor issues.
Not long ago, another well-known internet home decor brand, “Zhufan’er,” also suffered a financial breakdown, leading to a nationwide halt in hundreds of ongoing construction sites and sparking significant efforts by homeowners to safeguard their rights.
