The vice presidential debate for the United States will be held on Tuesday night, October 1 at 9 p.m. EST. Epoch Times and NTD will be broadcasting the event live and inviting experts to provide commentary.
This will be the only scheduled vice presidential debate before the November election between Republican vice presidential candidate and Ohio Senator Vance, JD, and Democratic vice presidential candidate and Governor of Minnesota, Walz, Tim.
Epoch Times and NTD live broadcast schedule (Vice Presidential Candidate Debate):
8-9 PM: Pre-debate live show
9-10:45 PM: Vice Presidential Debate (simultaneous translation)
10:45-11:30 PM: Commentary live show
Vance and Walz are relatively new faces in the national political spotlight. This debate comes three weeks after the only debate between former President Trump, Donald, and Vice President Harris, Kamala, which was watched by over 67 million people.
At 40 years old, Vance and 60-year-old Walz both emphasize their qualifications coming from small towns in the Midwest, in sharp contrast to native New York billionaire Trump and native Californian Bay Area Harris.
Before Election Day on November 5, this will be the most-watched opportunity for the two vice presidential candidates to appear together on television and online platforms.
As Harris’s running mate, Walz has been in politics for a long time, but outside of Minnesota, voters knew little about him before joining the Democratic candidate list. Harris chose him as her running mate in part to expand her appeal in key states.
Vance, author of “Hillbilly Elegy,” was elected as a legislator less than two years before being chosen by Trump as his running mate in 2022.
According to the Associated Press, traditionally vice presidents have limited influence on policy and mainly focus on attacking their opponents during the campaign season. However, this year’s political climate and the standout performances of both party candidates have changed the norm.
Walz’s national recognition greatly increased after describing his Republican opponent as a “freak,” while Vance stirred controversy on the immigration issue, making headlines as well.
As per the U.S. Constitution, the vice president also serves as the president of the Senate and has the power to cast a tie-breaking vote in case of deadlock. During the Biden administration’s legislative efforts over the past four years, current Vice President Harris has cast key tie-breaking votes in the Senate multiple times.
The debate will take place at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City, hosted by CBS anchor and chief editor of “Evening News” Nora O’Donnell and host and chief foreign affairs correspondent of “Face The Nation” Margaret Brennan.
The debate will be 90 minutes long, starting at 9 p.m. on Tuesday and ending at 10:30 p.m., without an audience present. Unlike the presidential debate, candidates’ microphones will not be muted when their opponent is speaking, but CBS News reserves the right to cut off microphones.
