In Shaanxi’s Hanzhong, a 27-year-old pregnant woman named Li and her cousin Li Jiahong were lured by their cousin’s husband Zheng, who had a previous record of fraud, to the Thai-Myanmar border with the promise of high rewards in July this year and then went missing. Recently, Li has returned to China, but Li Jiahong’s whereabouts remain unknown.
According to JiMu News, Li’s cousin’s husband Zheng lives in Fujian. Before the incident, Zheng contacted Li and Li Jiahong, asking them to go from Shenzhen to Hong Kong to help with business documentation, promising a substantial reward. At that time, Li was already three months pregnant.
From July 19th to 22nd, the two traveled from Shenzhen to Hong Kong, and then to Bangkok, Thailand. On the night of the 22nd, two drivers took them towards Chiang Mai in Thailand for “business documentation”, deviating from the route into mountainous areas. Around 11:55 pm on the 23rd, Mr. Qin received Li’s location showing them near Papay County, Thai-Myanmar border. Li sent a message saying, “Phone stolen.”
On the 24th, Mr. Qin called Li and Li Jiahong, but their phones were off, and they have been out of contact since then. On the 25th, Mr. Qin learned about Zheng’s fraud history and reported to the police in Hanzhong. Zheng’s family member Ms. Chen stated that Zheng had a past crime involving fraud, serving several years in prison and released just a few months ago.
On August 14th, Mr. Qin informed JiMu News that Li returned safely on the 11th, but Li Jiahong is still missing.
According to Mr. Qin, on the night of July 23rd, after Li and Li Jiahong had their phones stolen near Papay County, Thailand, traffickers took them across the river by boat and kept them locked in a large dark room along with others. The next day, Li Jiahong was sold, and a day later, Li was also sold.
Li was suspected to have been taken to a fraud camp in Myanmar, where buyers noticed her taking folic acid, confirming her pregnancy, and returned her to the traffickers. A day later, Li was sold again.
“The traffickers threatened her, warning not to reveal her pregnancy, or they would kill her,” said Mr. Qin. After Li was taken back to the camp, she visited a company where she encountered several Chinese-speaking staff.
Mr. Qin mentioned that the company owner might have seen the news of Li’s disappearance, verified her identity, confirmed her pregnancy, and kept her in a separate room for nearly ten days.
Just a few days ago, Mr. Qin received notice from Hanzhong police that Li had been found and would return to China. It was learned that arrangements were made to transport Li from the camp to Bangkok, Thailand, before boarding a plane to Chengdu.
Currently, Li has returned to her hometown in Hanzhong. Mr. Qin stated that Li was frightened and in poor mental condition, so she will rest at home before going to the hospital for a check-up.
As of the time of writing, Li Jiahong’s phone remains off. Family members stated that there is still no news about Li Jiahong. On the 14th, a staff member from the Sanming Sanyuan District Police in Fujian responded that the case is still under investigation, and details cannot be disclosed.
