Power Outage Caused by Road Construction Damaging Cables, Taiwan Power Company Makes Every Effort to Restore Electricity

According to reports from electronic media, a power outage incident occurred in the intersection of Jinhua Street and Ningbo East Street in Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, on the morning of the 9th, affecting a total of 833 households. The power outage was caused by damage to underground cables during road construction, and the Taipei City District of Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) promptly mobilized to restore electricity.

Director Zhang Jianchuan of Taipower’s Taipei City District Business Office stated that at 9:28 am today, a road construction contractor was carrying out pavement milling and paving on Lane 2 of Ningbo East Street in Zhongzheng District, Taipei City. In the process, they accidentally damaged Taipower’s underground cables, resulting in a power outage for 833 households in the vicinity of Jinhua Street and Ningbo East Street in Zhongzheng District. Upon receiving the report, Taipower immediately dispatched crews for repair work and restored power to 811 households within an hour (at 10:16 am), accounting for over 97% of the affected households. Additional manpower was deployed to continue repairs, and the remaining 22 households were fully restored by 12:41 pm.

The power outage caused inconvenience to the affected users, and Director Zhang expressed deep apologies on behalf of Taipower. He mentioned that Taipower will enhance measures to prevent pipeline damage in the future to avoid similar accidents from happening again. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and reliability of infrastructure to minimize disruptions to the daily lives of residents and businesses.
