As the transition of power approaches in the United States with a new president set to take office, President-elect Trump (Trump) and President Biden both delivered Christmas blessings to the people. Biden acknowledged that this would be his last time wishing the nation a Merry Christmas as President and used this opportunity to urge Americans to reflect and unite.
In a video tour of the White House Christmas decorations posted on YouTube on Christmas Eve, Biden urged Americans to put aside “all the noise and all the things that divide us.”
“We come into this world to care for and love one another,” Biden said in the video. “We often see each other as enemies, not as neighbors, and certainly not as fellow Americans.”
Biden encouraged Americans to find a moment of “quiet reflection,” to remind themselves to treat each other with dignity and respect, and to remember that American unity outweighs division. He said, “We are truly fortunate to live in this country.”
During the Christmas season, Biden posted on his official presidential social media accounts saying, “This is my last time wishing all Americans a Merry Christmas as President.”
“My hope for our country is that we all continue to seek the light of freedom and love, kindness and compassion, dignity and decency, today and always. May God bless all of you,” he wrote.
Biden also shared a photo of himself and First Lady Jill in front of the Christmas tree on his personal account, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.
Meanwhile, Trump, who will be inaugurated on January 20, also extended Christmas greetings on Truth Social, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and releasing a video with his wife Melania paying tribute to Jesus Christ, hoping that every American family has a joyful and hopeful Christmas.
“At this sacred time, our hearts are filled with gratitude and praise, thanking Almighty God for sending us His Son Jesus Christ to redeem the world,” Trump said.
“We recognize that the true spirit of Christmas is not about what we have, but about who we are, each one of us being a child of God. That is the true source of joy this time of year, that is the true meaning of Christmas.”
“Tonight, we pray to God to continue to bless this nation, to give each American family a Christmas season filled with joy, hope, and peace,” Trump said.
Afterwards, Trump posted another message conveying “Christmas blessings,” sharing more of his recent political views.
Trump first extended holiday wishes to Chinese soldiers, saying that they “operate the Panama Canal illegally but with love.”
He also offered blessings to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, stating that Canadian citizens pay excessive taxes, but if Canada becomes the 51st state of the United States, taxes could decrease by 60%.
Trump also extended blessings to the people of Greenland, stating that the US needs Greenland for national security reasons, and the Greenlandic people want the US to stay there.
In the coming year, Trump will embark on a new chapter in his political career, marking the end of Biden’s decades-long journey in Washington politics.
“We are witnessing the greatest election in American history, and now the skies over America shine brightly; in 26 days, we will make America great again. Merry Christmas,” Trump also said, “Because of all that is about to happen, this will be the best Christmas of our lives!”
