Recently, in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, a Porsche driver was caught on camera speeding on the road and causing a collision with a motorcycle while overtaking on a bend. Shockingly, instead of helping the injured, the driver’s first response was to change the license plate, triggering a wave of outrage online.
A video captured by a dashcam circulating online showed that around 6:11 p.m. on May 2nd, a Porsche sports car was speeding and swerved to avoid oncoming traffic, knocking down a motorcycle that was driving normally into a roadside drain.
After the accident, the Porsche owner got out of the car, glanced at the fallen rider, quickly removed the yellow license plate from the vehicle, and then replaced it with a blue one taken from the rear seat.
Another video online showed the driver smoking a cigarette and playing on his phone after changing the license plate, showing complete indifference towards the injured motorcycle rider. Only after being accused of rear-ending by the rider did the driver nonchalantly say, “Couldn’t brake in time, the road was too slippery.”
After the videos were exposed on social media, the driver’s callous attitude and the bizarre act of changing the license plate sparked condemnation from netizens. Many speculated that his skillful plate-changing operation might indicate he is a habitual offender.
Sharp-eyed netizens noticed that the license plate “浙B22v3R” was put on the luxury car by the Porsche owner in the footage. An informant revealed that the Porsche owner surnamed Zhou, a scion of a local wealthy family, had a “prominent background” and had been involved in dangerous driving incidents that were discreetly handled before.
It was further revealed that on August 13, 2024, the vehicle with the same license plate was involved in a fatal accident in Zhoushan due to running a red light, resulting in the deaths of two people.
On May 5th, the Yuyao Public Security Bureau in Zhejiang province reported that the motorcycle rider He suffered a fractured radius bone in his left forearm, while the driver Zhou was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
Regarding rumors online about multiple accidents involving Porsches, on May 7th, the authorities from the Yuyao Public Security Bureau responded to news reporters, stating that the vehicle was licensed on October 8, 2024, and had no connection to the reported incident in Zhoushan.
As for the license plate change, the police explained that initially, Zhou had a yellow decorative plate installed instead of a real license plate to avoid speed cameras. After the accident, he had to bring out the actual blue “浙B” license plate to evade penalties for not displaying a plate.
Due to the Chinese Communist Party’s practice of concealing the truth, the authenticity of the official reports cannot be confirmed at present.
