Popular Chinese Restaurant Chain Yuan Ji Exposed Eating Worms in Wonton

Recently, Mr. Jiao, a consumer, lodged a complaint, stating that on November 19th, he ordered a bowl of fresh meat wonton noodles at the Yuanji Yundumplings Six Dao Kou store in Haidian District, Beijing. However, to his dismay, as he reached the end of his meal, he discovered an unknown object about 3 centimeters long, black-purple in color, in his food.

Mr. Jiao promptly took a photo and reported the incident to the restaurant, and the business voluntarily offered a refund. However, upon returning home to confirm the unidentified object in the photo with his glasses, he realized it was actually a black-purple earthworm. He then returned to the store with friends to negotiate compensation with the person in charge but was denied. Subsequently, Mr. Jiao filed complaints with the Consumer Protection Committee and Yuanji Yundumplings consumer complaint hotline.

On November 29th, Mr. Jiao told The Paper that Yuanji had responded willing to compensate him with 500 yuan. According to a report in the Nanduwan Caisheshe, the implicated store has apologized to the customer and reached a settlement, pledging to revamp the store, dismiss the store manager, and take action against the employees involved.

Yuanji Yundumplings is a flagship brand of Yuanji Food. Public records show that its first store opened in Guangzhou in 2012, and currently, Yuanji Yundumplings has a presence in over 160 cities nationwide, with over 3,500 franchise stores.

In addition to the incident of finding an earthworm in wonton soup, the Beijing News noticed on the Black Cat Complaints Platform that there have been over 600 complaints related to Yuanji Yundumplings, with reasons for complaints often involving finding “foreign objects” in the food.

Many netizens have shared experiences of finding hair, stones, pits, small pieces of plastic, cockroaches, and snails in Yuanji Yundumplings. Recently, a netizen even posted on social media that flies were seen flying on the filling of dumplings at a certain Yuanji Yundumplings store.

On December 1st, the news of “Man finds earthworm in Yuanji Yundumplings, store willing to compensate 500 yuan” shot to the top of the hot search list.

Many netizens expressed disgust, saying, “This is too disgusting.” “Blaming everything on the store manager, the question is whether this kind of brand can really make a substantial improvement.”
