Political Review: What is the Chinese Communist Party’s Intent in Targeting NVIDIA?

On July 31, the Cyberspace Administration of China summoned Nvidia to explain the security risks related to the H20 chip. The Chinese authorities believe that there are security backdoors present in the H20 chip.

The H20 chip by Nvidia is specifically designed for the Chinese market as a downgraded AI chip that does not fall under the US-controlled chip category. It should not include functions such as “tracking positioning” and “remote shutdown”. Despite this, the Chinese government has decided to scrutinize Nvidia, giving rise to a sense of accusing others to distract from oneself.

China has increasingly engaged in aggressive unrestricted warfare attacks against the West through the internet. Meanwhile, the West has been dealing with China with a mindset of competition and coexistence, which could be seen as underestimating the strategic threat posed by China. To counter China’s unrestricted warfare, the US and the Western countries need to change their competitive mindset and confront the situation seriously to achieve victory.
