Pink Pond Discovered in Henan Village Resembles Being Filled with Lots of Paint

On June 18th, there were reports circulating online that a pond near the farmland in Matun Village, Yanshi District of Luoyang, Henan Province suddenly turned pink, sparking concerns among villagers about the safety of underground water and irrigation water.

A video circulating online showed that the water in the pond appeared bright pink, as if a large amount of dye had been poured into it. In the video, a villager urged relevant departments to thoroughly investigate the source of pollution.

In response to this, the village party secretary stated that the water body is considered “stagnant water” and the pink color may be related to a reaction between new and old water. Tests have been conducted on the drinking water of villagers, and the results came out normal. However, the water quality issue of the pond is still under examination. Currently, the environmental protection department has intervened in the investigation, and further measures will be taken based on the test results.

Netizens commented, “Waking up to find the river turned pink, if you didn’t know better, you might think Luoyang had organized a ‘girly pink environmental protection show.’ Unfortunately, it’s not romantic, it’s an alarm. The river is not a milk tea shop, it really shouldn’t be pink; the change in water color is not for aesthetics, it’s an environmental warning. If there is no explanation in the end, it will be the wettest mockery of this millennia-old ancient city of Luoyang.” “What on earth was discharged into the river, it must be thoroughly investigated!” “I searched on Baidu: Henan Luoyang dye.” “Investigate it properly, because the water that flowed from the chemical plants behind some villages in Yanshi used to be as white as milk. And some time ago, many people smelled a foul odor at night, not knowing which factory released it.” “Uh-oh, a biochemical crisis is about to erupt.”

Others mentioned, “Twenty years ago, the water in front of our village was also pink, and now more than 100 households have had dozens of cancer cases.”
