On Monday afternoon, the Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL) were invited to visit the White House and celebrate their Super Bowl victory with President Trump on the South Lawn.
Back on February 9, in the pinnacle showdown of the NFL – Super Bowl LIX, the Philadelphia Eagles triumphed over the defending champions Kansas City Chiefs with a score of 40-22, lifting the Super Bowl trophy for the second time since the 2017 season. This marked their fifth NFL championship in the team’s history.
During this year’s game, President Trump broke tradition by attending the game in person, making him the first sitting U.S. president to attend a Super Bowl. In the past, U.S. presidents have watched the Super Bowl from the White House. For Americans, the Super Bowl is not just the climax of the NFL season, but also an unofficial national holiday and a significant part of American culture.
This is the third team invited by Trump during his current term. Previously, he invited the Florida Panthers of the ice hockey league and the 2024 World Series champions Los Angeles Dodgers to the White House.
It’s worth mentioning that on Monday afternoon, President Trump’s eldest daughter Ivanka, along with her three children, also attended this unique celebratory event at the White House.
