Tropical Storm “Yagi” recently hit several regions in the northern part of the Philippines, causing flooding, landslides, and mudslides, resulting in at least 14 confirmed deaths.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Tropical Storm “Yagi” (local name: Enteng) made landfall in Casiguran town, Aurora province in the northeast of the Philippines on Monday afternoon with sustained winds of about 84 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching nearly 145 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA stated that the storm has intensified the monsoon rains in parts of the island of Luzon, including the capital Manila, with heavy rainfall expected to continue in the coming days.

As reported by the Associated Press, the flooding and landslides triggered by “Yagi” have so far claimed the lives of at least 14 individuals.

Due to the severe weather conditions, some government offices in Manila have suspended operations for two consecutive days, and schools have been closed. Additionally, several domestic flights in the Philippines have been canceled, and maritime operations in the eastern and central ports have been halted.

China’s meteorological department announced this morning that “Yagi” is currently moving west-northwest at a speed of about 10 kilometers per hour. As it enters the South China Sea, its intensity is expected to gradually increase, potentially reaching the strength of a severe typhoon or even super typhoon level. It is forecasted to make landfall along the coasts of eastern Hainan Island to western Guangdong province on Friday evening and into Saturday morning move towards the Gulf of Tonkin, gradually weakening in intensity.
