Photo Gallery: Tornado Devastates Iowa, USA, with At Least 4 Fatalities

On Tuesday afternoon, May 21st, the town of Greenfield in Iowa, USA, was hit by a series of tornadoes, causing many houses and buildings to be flattened. Currently, it is known that 4 people have tragically lost their lives, and dozens are injured. Rescue teams are conducting search and rescue operations in the affected areas.

According to the information from the National Weather Service in the United States, in the past 24 hours, at least 26 violent tornadoes have struck the Midwest states of Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, with the majority (at least 21 tornadoes) occurring in Iowa.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety announced on Wednesday evening that the tornadoes had devastated Greenfield in Adair County, resulting in 4 deaths and at least 35 injuries. Due to severe damage to the local hospital during the tornado, at least 14 injured individuals have been transferred to hospitals in neighboring counties.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has declared a “disaster emergency” for 15 counties in the state, including Adair and Adams counties, and visited the hard-hit town of Greenfield on Wednesday to “assess disaster losses with local officials and discuss post-disaster reconstruction work.”

The National Weather Service in the United States predicts that the tornado system will continue until Thursday, bringing more severe weather to most of the central and southern regions of the country, from South Dakota to Texas and then to the eastern part of Tennessee.
