Over the past weekend, hundreds of Native Americans from various tribes gathered at Harriman State Park near the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York to celebrate Pow Wow, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the indigenous peoples of the Americas.
Native Americans, also known as American Indians, are the indigenous peoples of the Americas. There are numerous Native American tribes in the United States, many of which have different branches and dialects. As of 2015, there were 556 federally recognized Native American tribes in the United States. Some well-known tribes include Lakota, Navajo, Mohawk, Seneca, Cherokee, Aztec, Maya, Samoan, Hawaiian, and others.
Pow Wow is an annual festival celebrated by Native Americans in North America, providing a prime opportunity to showcase indigenous cultures.
The festival was organized by The Redhawk Native American Arts Council and featured over two days with more than 500 Native American artists, educators, singers, dancers, and performing groups from across the Americas.
The celebration showcased dances, crafts, and traditional Native American foods. Over 40 artists set up booths to sell crafts, jewelry, food, and more. Some of the featured Native American dishes included buffalo burgers, venison stew, and corn soup.
Another highlight of the event was the unique and traditional attire worn by members of the various Native American tribes, which captivated onlookers.
