On Tuesday, Vice President Hé Jǐnlì will deliver her closing argument at the White House Oval Lawn at 7:30 PM Eastern Time. According to a partial speech draft revealed by her campaign team earlier on Tuesday, she promises to work towards improving people’s livelihoods while contrasting her plans with those of her opponent.
Hé Jǐnlì spent most of Tuesday rehearsing her speech and making last-minute adjustments. She will dedicate significant time to introducing her personal experiences and policy agendas, focusing on how she plans to help many Americans control their cost of living.
With just one week left until Election Day, multiple polls indicate a tight race between Hé Jǐnlì and former President Trump. Both sides are aiming to seize opportunities and capture the attention of swing state voters in the final moments before the election.
Preparations for the Vice President’s latest speech have been underway for several weeks. Her aides hope that her speech will overshadow Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden in New York on Sunday, which can accommodate up to 40,000 attendees.
The speech on Tuesday will take place at the White House Oval Lawn. According to media releases, Hé Jǐnlì will emphasize the “priorities” distinguishing her from Trump.
Campaign aides emphasize that she will not deliver lengthy discourses on democracy, which is a significant way President Biden has sought to distinguish himself from Trump.
Voters are looking forward to Hé Jǐnlì outlining practical and forward-thinking plans for America, including proposals on economic revitalization and reducing inflation.
Hé Jǐnlì is expected to position herself as the “next generation” leader after Trump and the incumbent, Biden. On Monday, she stated, “People are tired and truly ready to turn the page.”
She will urge Americans to vote and pledge to serve all parties.
She will say, “I promise to seek common ground and common-sense solutions to improve your lives. I’m not in this for political gain. I aim to make progress.
“I promise to listen to experts’ opinions, to those affected by my decisions, and to those who disagree with me.
“I will have them at my table. I promise to be the president of all Americans. Always putting the country above party and personal interests.”
In the final stages of the campaign, Hé Jǐnlì faces several weaknesses, including her alignment with Biden on most policies, such as U.S. support for Israel’s military actions in Gaza. Biden is not expected to attend the speech on the Oval Lawn.
In recent weeks, Hé Jǐnlì and her campaign team have worked diligently to portray her as an individual separate from Biden.
Hé Jǐnlì’s campaign team believes they can sway some undecided Americans, especially white, college-educated women who may be hesitant to vote for Trump.
Campaign Chair O’Malley Dillon stated in a Tuesday morning conference call with the media, “We know there are still many voters who are undecided or unsure about whom to support or whether to vote.”
She mentioned that Hé Jǐnlì’s speech aims to reach out to potentially “exhausted” voter groups.
“She will discuss what her new generation of leadership truly means,” Dillon said, “and will focus on the American people.”
