Photo Gallery: Discovering New Emotions of National Treasures, Taiwan National Palace Museum Launches Digital Exhibition Again

The National Palace Museum in Taiwan’s northern branch has launched a new digital art exhibition titled “Immersed in the Palace Museum: Capturing the Light of the Soul’s Inspiration.” This exhibition integrates projection, interactive technology, and immersive theater to offer innovative experiences and reinterpret classic artifacts from the Palace Museum, such as the famous painting “Travelers among Mountains and Streams.” The museum welcomes visitors of all ages to come and appreciate the artistic inspiration.

Taiwan’s National Palace Museum is showcasing its treasures, including “Travelers among Mountains and Streams,” “Early Spring,” “A Thousand Peaks and Myriad Ravines,” as well as renowned pieces like the “Jadeite Cabbage” and “Meat-shaped Stone,” through new media art exhibitions. Deputy Director Huang Yongtai mentioned during the opening press conference that the Palace Museum has long been committed to promoting the integration of art and technology. Last year, the museum received great acclaim for its digital exhibition “Immersed in the Palace: A Journey through the Four Seasons.”

Huang Yongtai stated that this year, the Palace Museum is unveiling “Immersed in the Palace 2.0,” collaborating with Taiwan’s digital art, video production, and art exhibition sectors to transform 8K artifact images into new digital display formats using immersive theater, interactive installations, and other innovative technologies to provide viewers with a unique and immersive exhibition experience intertwined with light and shadow.

During the exhibition introduction, Deputy Director Yu Peijin of the National Palace Museum highlighted the importance of engaging with audiences from around the world and creating exhibitions that reflect contemporary trends through a fresh perspective. The “Immersed in the Palace 2.0” digital exhibition combines immersive displays and environmental sound effects to allow visitors to experience and appreciate the details of the artifacts up close.

Peijin mentioned that besides immersion, there is an expectation for the Palace Museum to integrate modern elements into its exhibitions that resonate with daily life. For example, the exhibit “Myriad Illusions” brings to life the exquisite and intricate patterns of porcelain crafted 300 years ago by artisans through modern kaleidoscopic imagery, showcasing the museum’s classic yet modern appeal seamlessly.

This exhibition combines 8K artifact images from the Palace Museum with high-quality graphics, divided into three sections: the first section, “From Small to Large,” enhances viewers’ sensory acuity through rich digital animations, leading them into a miniature world within the artifacts. The second section, “Immersed in the Light,” goes beyond sensory limitations by using realistic artifact images and innovative technologies to explore the ancient landscape paintings. The third section, “Capturing Light and Shadow,” allows visitors to freely explore the artistic beauty and knowledge boundaries of the artifacts through digital installations.

The “Immersed in the Palace Museum: Capturing the Light of the Soul’s Inspiration” new media art exhibition will be on display until July 28th. The Palace Museum invites the public to explore the new inspiration and emotions sparked by the fusion of Palace Museum artifacts and digital technology.
