Recent heavy rainfall in northeastern India has led to widespread flooding and hundreds of geological disasters, including landslides and mudslides in eight states, according to statistics released by relevant departments in India. The death toll has risen to 44, with hundreds of thousands of people affected.

Officials from the northeastern states of India reported that the heavy rainfall since last Thursday, May 29, has resulted in flooding and secondary disasters, causing 44 fatalities. Assam state is the hardest hit, with at least 17 deaths, followed by Arunachal Pradesh with 12 deaths.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority announced on Tuesday, June 3, that the floods have affected over 633,000 people in 21 regions of the state, with crop damage exceeding 14,000 hectares. They also warned that water levels in the Brahmaputra River and some of its tributaries have surpassed danger levels.

The Indian Meteorological Department predicts that heavy to very heavy rainfall will continue in some parts of the northeast in the next 24 hours, further intensifying the flood threat. In light of this, the Indian government advises residents in affected areas to remain vigilant. Authorities will continue to monitor the disaster situation, provide assistance, intensify search efforts for missing persons, and restore communication lines.
