Philadelphia Chinatown Holds Summer Celebration

Last Saturday, on July 20th, the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation (PCDC) held the second annual summer celebration event at the intersection of 10th Street and Arch Street in the heart of Philadelphia’s Chinatown. The event featured a variety of arts and crafts booths, food vendors, and live performances as part of the street festivities.

According to John Chin, the Executive Director of the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation, this was the second time organizing this annual event. This year, 35 vendors participated in the event which started at 1 p.m. and lasted until 7 p.m., with an estimated attendance of over tens of thousands of people.

Chin stated, “PCDC’s goal is to ensure the prosperity of our Chinatown and attract visitors. It is an exciting destination. Therefore, we host the summer festival to draw people in to come and play, and remind them that Chinatown is right here.”

“I just want to showcase our Chinatown’s culture through this event and remind people that when you come to Chinatown, you are experiencing authentic Chinese culture. We have all these restaurants, these shops, great music and dance. Moreover, at Franklin Square on 6th Street, at 8 p.m. we also have the Chinese Lantern Festival, which you can see by purchasing tickets. It’s very beautiful,” added Chin.
