Popular Korean girl group NMIXX recently performed their song “DICE” at the New Korea University celebration, but their music suddenly stopped during the performance. The members remained calm and showed stable vocal skills, earning praise for their professionalism. However, the event organizers revealed that the music interruption was deliberate. In response, the management company JYP Entertainment issued an apology on the 30th.
On the night of the 27th, NMIXX took part in the university celebration performance at New Korea University. During their performance of “DICE,” the music abruptly stopped, prompting the members to continue dancing and singing without music, delivering an acapella and dance performance for about a minute.
Despite some members showing slight signs of embarrassment after the music stopped, all of them remained composed, carrying on with the dance and singing. When videos of the incident shot by audience members surfaced online, fans from various countries praised NMIXX for their exceptional on-the-spot performance. The members also admitted to fans on a paid messaging platform after the event that they struggled to manage their expressions due to feeling panicked at the time.
Following the incident, some fans blamed the university for the mishap. In response, the student council of New Korea University disclosed on online forums that the sound mishap was deliberately arranged by NMIXX’s company.
In a statement released on the morning of the 30th, NMIXX’s management company, JYP Entertainment’s SQU4D, acknowledged that the sound incident was indeed pre-planned.
The announcement stated: “The sound mishap on NMIXX’s New Korea University celebration stage was intended to heighten the atmosphere of the event, and content was coordinated with the organizers using audio sources related to the activity. However, NMIXX members were not informed in advance in order to ensure a natural performance.”
At the end of the statement, the company expressed regret: “We apologize for not considering the confusion and inconvenience this event might have caused to the audience and fans. We will strive to prevent similar incidents from happening again in the future. Once again, we apologize to the audience and fans who cheered for NMIXX at the celebration.”
