The 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC) is set to take place in Milwaukee on Monday, July 15th. A large number of law enforcement officers are conducting strict monitoring in an area of approximately half a square mile around the convention venue.
On Saturday, July 13th, former President Trump was injured in a shooting incident during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Following this, officials have heightened security measures.
The event venue has been surrounded by tall black fences in a circle. Attendees must take a detour to reach the entrance of the event site – the Fiserv Forum, where the event will be held and will continue until Thursday, July 18th.
A police patrol boat is cruising along the Milwaukee River, while dozens of mounted police officers are patrolling the surrounding streets. Many police cars have blocked roads and parking lots.
To enter the secure area, drivers are required to open their trunks and hoods for inspection. Additionally, two police dogs are conducting searches around each vehicle.
Furthermore, police officers are guiding pedestrians to safety tents where they will check the identification of each entrant and inspect all items in their bags. Journalists must open their phones, laptops, and other electronic devices before entering.
This event is only open to Republican delegates, party officials, invited guests, and journalists.
Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh announced at a press conference held on Monday that around 1,700 National Guard members and a few active-duty personnel will provide round-the-clock support for the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Milwaukee Police Department during the convention.
Singh stated, “These personnel primarily come from the National Guard units in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and North Dakota. They will provide civil support… security services, and stand ready to respond to other emergent domestic requirements to protect lives and property, maintain peace, order, and public safety.”
