“PCDC Consultation Exhibition Calls for the Preservation of Philadelphia Chinatown”

On June 15th (Saturday), the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation (PCDC) held its 15th annual Community Consultation Exhibition at the Dinghwa Community Center. Approximately 50 businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies participated, offering a variety of health, housing, welfare, insurance, financial services to the nearby Chinese residents.

PCDC Executive Director John Chin stated that over 300 people visited the exhibition. He said, “This year, unlike previous years, there were more booths focusing on health, including a considerable scale of health check-ups. The focus this year for PCDC is to help residents stay in Chinatown.”

Health screenings on-site included physical therapy, cancer screenings, dental care, hepatitis B testing, general health examinations, among others.

Chin added, “Despite PCDC’s ongoing efforts to improve Chinatown, we need everyone to participate and work together to enhance Chinatown. We must support small businesses, construct more housing, improve convenience facilities in Chinatown, provide more parking spaces, and create more green spaces to offer residents a higher quality of life in Chinatown.” He emphasized, “We want to preserve Chinese culture, and we need everyone’s involvement.”

Sung Young Yun, the Asian Outreach Coordinator for PCA, who has been exhibiting annually, expressed that she had a fruitful day, helping many people understand more about PCA. PCA is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for elderly and disabled individuals in Philadelphia. She shared an example of a Chinese elderly person who spoke limited English and had difficulty walking, who nearly missed out on welfare benefits because he mistakenly thought his income was too high. PCA was able to assist him greatly.
