Paraguayan Governor of Alto Parana Visits Taiwan to Expand Cooperation Opportunities

The Governor and his wife of Alto Paraná Province, an ally of the Republic of China (Taiwan), visited Taiwan today to expand cooperation opportunities between Alto Paraná Province and Taiwan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China warmly welcomed their visit.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China issued a press release today stating that Governor César Landy Torres and his wife from Alto Paraná Province in Paraguay were invited by the government of the Republic of China to visit Taiwan from the 19th to the 23rd of this month.

Governor Torres is an important local leader in Paraguay, young and promising with a firm pro-Taiwan stance. This visit marks his first visit to Taiwan to witness firsthand the successful experiences in economic and educational development in the Republic of China, and to expand cooperation opportunities between the key agricultural, livestock, and industrial town in Paraguay, Alto Paraná Province, and Taiwan, enhancing bilateral mutually beneficial relationships.

During their visit to Taiwan, Governor Torres and his wife will attend a banquet hosted by Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chen Li-guo, as well as meetings with the Ministry of Justice, the Taipei City Police Department Command Center, and the International Cooperation and Development Foundation. They will also visit the Hsinchu Science Park, the National Palace Museum, the National Center for Traditional Arts Yilan Park, and Liberty Square, as well as hold discussions with Paraguayan students studying in Taiwan at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.

The Republic of China currently has 12 diplomatic allies, including two countries in Central America [Belize (also known as Beiliz) and Guatemala (also known as Weidimala)], four countries in the Caribbean [Haiti, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines], three countries in the Pacific [Marshall Islands, Palau (also known as Palau), and Tuvalu (also known as Tuwalu)], as well as one country in South America (Paraguay), one country in Africa (Eswatini), and one country in Europe (the Vatican).
