Pan Yuwen proclaims to be single before turning 40, in long-distance relationship with Malaysian singer.

Taiwanese singer Pan Yuwen is set to release his new single “7AM” on the 21st, on the eve of his 40th birthday, announcing his long-awaited transition from being single. This song is not only a tribute to love but also a true depiction of the sweetness and bitterness of a long-distance relationship. With it being a while since his last release, he is looking forward to sharing his journey and stories with everyone through this new song.

It has been over three years since Pan Yuwen released his last mini album “Love Songs I Dare Not Sing.” Besides bringing new music in 2024, he also shared some good news – after being single for over 7 years, he is finally in a “relationship status” with Malaysian singer Zen Jun Qian.

Having known each other for many years, Pan Yuwen and Zen Jun Qian had the opportunity to reunite at the end of 2022 when Pan was performing in Kuala Lumpur. This reunion sparked a new connection between them, marking the beginning of Pan Yuwen’s long-distance love journey. He poured this story into his new music single “7AM”, composed by the talented songwriter who created the hit song “Alaskan Bay”, Fei Daol, with lyrics written by Pan Yuwen himself.

Regarding the process of selecting the song, Pan Yuwen shared: “Having the opportunity to include Fei Daol’s work this time is a very precious opportunity. At the moment I heard the demo, the emotional melody of the song immediately captivated me, and I knew it was the one!”

With a deep connection to Malaysia, both through the composer and inviting a member of the local up-and-coming band babychair, Yang Jiacheng, as a co-producer, Pan Yuwen’s ties to the country run deep. When they met in the recording studio, Yang Jiacheng told him, “I watched you compete on ‘Super Star Avenue’ since I was a child, I really like the songs you sing, especially ‘The Lion in My Heart’.” This statement highlighted the generational gap for Pan Yuwen, fueling his determination to excel during the recording and vocal production, hoping to deliver the song well.

Debuting into a long-distance relationship, Pan Yuwen personally penned the lyrics for “7AM”, encapsulating the feelings of an international love story. He chose to depict the lyrical scene at the airport farewell, expressing the emotions of a lover about to depart and the longing that follows separation, with the song title derived from the boarding time at the airport when lovers bid farewell.

For those who have experienced long-distance relationships, the countdown to the end of the journey leading up to the departure time is often excruciating. Pan Yuwen explains, “It’s like a countdown before the separation, but because one doesn’t want to deepen the other’s sadness, the sorrow is only revealed after the departure. Now, the airport evokes both love and hate, being the place where you first meet your significant other and also where you part ways.”

Pan Yuwen, who used to joke during his single days that he would flaunt his relationship to the point where his friends would find it annoying, finds himself not immediately sharing this news now that he is in a relationship. He mentions that approaching 40, this relationship comes at a more mature stage in his life, particularly being an international relationship, where he cherishes the time spent together, is more willing to understand the differences, and hopes to conduct himself with more maturity and composure.
