Over a Thousand Participants Disqualified for Cheating in China’s Software Talent Competition

The 16th “Lanqiao Cup” National Software and Information Technology Talent Competition has been embroiled in scandal, with 312 participants found to have violated rules and 1133 participants caught cheating. The organizing committee had no choice but to announce the cancellation of the competition results for the cheating players and impose a 3-year ban on them.

The “Lanqiao Cup” is organized by the Talent Exchange Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the CCP. Since 2010, it has been held annually, with more than 1900 universities nationwide participating, including top institutions like Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the University of Science and Technology of China. It is one of the leading national IT competitions in China. This year marks the 16th edition, held from April 12 to 13 at 1172 competition venues across the country.

According to a report by CCTV News on May 2, the organizing committee of the Lanqiao Cup competition announced on April 30 that, through technical monitoring, manual verification, and tips reporting, a total of 312 players were identified as violating the rules, and 1133 players were found to have cheated.

The announcement sparked heated discussions online. Many netizens expressed their views, with some questioning, “Hasn’t the reputation of this software competition been tarnished? Are they still going to hold it this year?” Others commented, “Is it only this few people? Didn’t we see dozens of first prizes from one school before?” Some shared their thoughts, saying, “In fact, apart from the National Second Level and above, these competitions are not very useful. I didn’t think it would be of great use, but I signed up to let myself calm down and learn something.” and “Those who understand, understand.”
