Outstanding female entrepreneur Tang Danxia from Orange County wins the Hua Crown Award.

The World Chinese Business Women Entrepreneurs Association (referred to as the World Chinese Association, or 世華) recently announced the winners of the 2024 Chinese Crown Award. Dr. Danxia Tang, a Southern California entrepreneur recommended by the Orange County branch of the World Chinese Association, stood out among nearly a hundred applicants worldwide and will be honored at the World Chinese Business Women’s Annual Conference in Taipei.

The President of the Orange County branch of the World Chinese Association, Shuhua Zhang, stated that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the World Chinese Association, which has 88 branches globally and is the only global women’s organization recognized by the Ministry of the Interior of Taiwan. The “Top Ten Outstanding Chinese Business Women in the World” Chinese Crown Award is the highest honor within the World Chinese Association, and Dr. Danxia Tang, an outstanding member of the Orange County branch, rightfully earned this recognition and serves as a role model for women in the new era.

The 10th Chinese Crown Award this year went through six months of preliminary, secondary, and final review processes. Ten candidates were selected by experts and scholars from various fields in Taiwan, including industry, government, academia, and law, following strict procedures and standards to receive the Chinese Crown Award. The Orange County branch of the World Chinese Association congratulated Dr. Danxia Tang on this prestigious honor and hopes to attract more professional women from Orange County and the San Diego area to join.

Dr. Danxia Tang currently serves as the President of AiViva Biopharmaceutical Company in Southern California. She excelled as a top student in the Pharmaceutical Department of National Taiwan University and obtained her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) within three years after graduation.

In the early 1980s, Dr. Tang was recruited to Allergan Pharmaceutical Company in Southern California to lead the organization’s new research and development department. She not only established a team, set up laboratories, but also successfully developed and launched a variety of prescription eye medications such as Betagan, Ocufen, Ocuflox, Alphagan, Lumigan, Restasis, Ozurdex, prescription drugs for skin diseases like Azelex, Tazorac, and the well-known Botox. Her journey with Allergan was akin to a startup, starting from scratch, and the products she developed gained immense success in the market, benefiting numerous patients. The total annual sales revenue once exceeded $4.5 billion, leading Allergan to rapid expansion as a globally renowned pharmaceutical company. Dr. Danxia Tang was also promoted to Vice President, holding the highest position for a Chinese executive within the company.

Apart from shining in the workplace, Dr. Tang is also dedicated to giving back to society. Since 2000, she has volunteered as the President of the Southern Coast Chinese Cultural Association, utilizing business strategies from major American enterprises to successfully lead fundraising efforts to build a permanent building for the Irvine Chinese School, setting an example for overseas Chinese schools and elevating the status of the Chinese community in the area. Her passion for public service earned her the Orange County Volunteer Award (2004 Vision in America Award).

At the end of 2015, Dr. Tang, along with several pharmaceutical industry partners, founded AiViva Biopharmaceutical Company in Southern California, specializing in new therapies for ophthalmology, dermatology, and cancer. To date, they have acquired 63 international patents, with several patented new drugs entering clinical trials. The company’s valuation exceeds $80 million, becoming a prominent “unicorn” enterprise in the field of biotechnology.

The Chinese Crown Award was established in 2001, and past winners have been exemplary figures of global Chinese business women. Dr. Danxia Tang expressed her deep honor at receiving this award, and she looks forward to learning from and sharing success and honor with all members of the World Chinese Association.
