“Epoch Times, December 11, 2025” – Food company “Mondelez International” announced on Tuesday (December 9) that its classic cookie brand “Oreo” will launch two Zero Sugar cookies in the United States in January next year. The two variations include regular and double stuffed cookies, which will become regular products under the Oreo brand line.
This marks the first time Mondelez International is selling Zero Sugar Oreos in the United States. The company stated that Zero Sugar Oreos have already been sold in Europe and China.
Mondelez International mentioned that consumers are increasingly seeking what is known as “moderate indulgence,” and the new Oreos will fill a gap in the market for sugar-free sandwich cookies.
Other food producers have also taken notice of the trend towards healthier snacks among consumers.
Market research company Circana reported earlier this year that most Americans are looking for snacks they consider “healthful.” Conagra Brands, a producer of popcorn and Slim Jim meat snacks, in recent snack reports, highlighted that millennials and Gen Z consumers particularly favor snacks with portion control that are conducive to health.
The launch of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar in 2017 saw a 9% increase in sales last year, while sales of regular Coca-Cola only increased by 2%.
Mondelez International revealed that it took them four years to develop Zero Sugar Oreos to ensure that the taste of the cookies remains the same as the original version. The sweeteners in Oreos include maltitol (a sugar alcohol found in some fruits and vegetables), polyglucose (a soluble dietary fiber), sucralose (a sweetener derived from sugar), and acesulfame (a synthetic sweetener).
Nutritional data comparison between Zero Sugar Oreos and regular Oreos is challenging due to their different serving sizes.
A serving of Zero Sugar Oreos (22.6 grams) contains 90 calories, 4.5 grams of fat, and 16 grams of carbohydrates. A serving of regular Oreos (three cookies, 34 grams) contains 160 calories, 7 grams of fat, and 25 grams of carbohydrates.
The major difference is that a serving of regular Oreos contains 13 grams of added sugar, which accounts for 26% of the recommended daily intake. Zero Sugar Oreos, on the other hand, do not contain any added sugars.
Mondelez International is currently facing competition from Hershey and cookie manufacturer Voortman. Hershey sells a sugar-free version of their Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and other candies, while Voortman is a brand known for sugar-free wafers.
