Oracle’s founder Ellison surpasses Musk to become the world’s richest person.

In news reported by Epoch Times on September 10, 2025, Oracle Corporation announced quarterly earnings that exceeded expectations as of Wednesday, 10:10 a.m. Eastern Time. The results indicate a further growth trajectory in the future, leading to a staggering increase of 101 billion US dollars in the wealth of its founder, Larry Ellison, surpassing Elon Musk to become the world’s richest person.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Ellison’s wealth growth has pushed his total fortune to 393 billion US dollars, surpassing Musk’s 385 billion US dollars. This marks the largest single-day increase in wealth in the history of the index.

Musk became the world’s richest person for the first time in 2021, but was later overtaken by Jeff Bezos of Amazon and Bernard Arnault of LVMH Group. Last year, Musk reclaimed the title of the richest person and held onto it for over 300 days.

At the age of 81, Ellison is a co-founder of Oracle Corporation, currently serving as chairman and chief technology officer, with much of his net worth invested in this database software company.

Oracle’s stock price had surged by 45% at the close of Tuesday and rose by 41% on Wednesday, marking the largest single-day increase in the company’s history. Prior to this, the company had announced a significant increase in order volume and provided a positive outlook for its cloud infrastructure business. Ellison owns around 1.16 billion shares of Oracle stock, which surged by 40% to $338 on Wednesday morning.

While Musk remains extremely wealthy, as of Tuesday, his net worth had decreased by nearly 49 billion US dollars, with Tesla’s stock price falling by 13% this year. The company’s board has proposed a significant compensation package to Musk, under which he could become the world’s first trillionaire if he successfully achieves a series of ambitious goals.
