One-year-old Boy in Guangdong Chokes to Death on Jelly

A one-year-old boy in Shunde, Guangdong, recently choked to death while eating jelly. Despite urgent treatment by the parents and being rushed to the hospital, the child tragically passed away. This news made headlines on Baidu’s hot searches on January 23.

According to the official WeChat account “Qilu Yidian” under the “Qilu Evening News” on January 23, it was reported by Shunde Women and Children’s Hospital affiliated with Guangdong Medical University that a one-year-old boy choked while eating jelly, causing him to suffocate. Although his parents performed the Heimlich maneuver at home, by the time he arrived at another local hospital, the child’s heart had stopped beating.

Although doctors managed to revive the child’s heartbeat after 40 minutes of CPR, the prolonged lack of oxygen led to the child’s inability to be saved in the end.

Many netizens expressed their sorrow over the child’s death, with some reminding parents not to feed their children jelly due to its lack of nutritional value and potential danger.

Netizen “Dishasha” commented: “Jelly is too slippery, it can accidentally slide into the throat. Even adults face this risk, not to mention children.”

“Bin Wang 1987” said: “How could such a young child eat jelly? The child is too innocent.”
