One Injured as Building in Manhattan Financial District Struck by Lightning

New York City experienced a severe thunderstorm on Thursday morning, with the Fire Department reporting that a building in the downtown Manhattan financial district was struck by lightning, resulting in one person being injured. It is currently unclear whether the injury was caused by lightning or by debris from the building.

Fire officials stated that they received a report shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday that a building at 80 Pine Street in the Manhattan financial district had been struck by lightning, resulting in one person being injured.

Upon arrival at the scene, New York City firefighters transported the injured person to New York-Presbyterian Hospital for treatment.

Thursday morning saw a fast-moving, intense thunderstorm system pass through the tri-state area of New York, causing severe storms in various locations including New York City, leading to flight disruptions at airports in the greater New York area. Flights were grounded until Thursday afternoon before resuming.
