Olympic Champion Reacts to Injured Messages, Sparks Controversy

Recently, after Chinese Olympic diving champion Lian Junjie released a video of his recovery training following an injury, the comments left by Quan Hongchan, who has also missed several major competitions due to injury, sparked discussion.

Lian Junjie shared a video on his social media account, documenting his recovery process after sustaining an injury. On February 20th, he fractured his right shoulder, experiencing such pain that he couldn’t sleep at night.

Lian Junjie is from Wuzhou, Guangxi. At the Paris Olympics last year, he and Yang Hao won the gold medal in the men’s synchronized 10m platform diving final.

In the video, Lian Junjie recorded that after resting for a month, he was finally able to start his recovery training at the training facility, but he could hardly lift his right arm, which had atrophied severely.

With the help of his recovery team, he underwent rehabilitation training. Lian Junjie candidly expressed that the recovery process was painful, dull, and very tiring. However, the video showed that his condition had improved significantly.

Lian Junjie said, “I won’t make it to the World Championships, hopefully, I’ll see you all at the National Games.”

Quan Hongchan, the Olympic diving champion who is also recovering from an injury, left a comment in the discussion area saying, “Come on, see you at the National Games,” accompanied by an emoticon of table tennis player Wang Chuqin.

Lian Junjie responded, saying, “I’ll definitely be there.”

The interaction between Lian Junjie and Quan Hongchan, who sympathize with each other’s injuries, on social media platforms has sparked attention from netizens. Some netizens expressed, “Every athlete goes through hardships, and each one deserves respect! Wishing them a speedy recovery!”

In recent times, Quan Hongchan has been absent from several competitions due to injuries. On May 24th, at the 2025 National Diving Championships held in Wuhan, Quan Hongchan arrived with the Guangdong team but had to withdraw from the competition due to a recurring old injury.

On July 4th, the Chinese Swimming Association officially announced the roster for the World Championships in Singapore, with Chen Yuxi leading the Chinese diving team, while Quan Hongchan missed the competition once again due to her injury.

The 15th National Games will be held from November 9th to 21st, jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau, with the opening and closing ceremonies taking place in Guangzhou and Shenzhen respectively.

On June 27th, the official announcement of Quan Hongchan’s participation in the Games went viral, sparking a frenzy online. However, many netizens are both happy and worried about her comeback to competition.

Some netizens expressed, “Finally heard news of Quan Hongchan competing, go, Hongchan!””I am going to Guangzhou to watch Quan Hongchan.”

Others reminded, “Don’t buy tickets too early, only purchase them if Hongchan is participating to avoid refunds later.”
