Official: Second person dies after Texas man crashes truck into building

Authorities in Texas reported on Monday that a driver in Texas crashed a stolen 18-wheeler truck into a public safety office after being denied a license renewal earlier this month, resulting in a second fatality.

On April 12, authorities said 42-year-old Clenard Parker intentionally rammed the truck into the Texas Department of Public Safety office in the rural town of Brenham outside Houston, where there were several people inside the building. A 78-year-old man died later the same day after being taken to the hospital.

State officials confirmed that Cheryl Turner, a 63-year-old resident of Brenham, was the second fatality in the incident.

Parker remains in custody in Washington County on charges including murder, four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. Prison records do not list Parker’s lawyer, and the county clerk’s office stated on Monday that there is no attorney listed in the file.

Authorities stated that after being informed that he was not eligible to renew his commercial driver’s license, Parker engaged in a brief chase with law enforcement officers and then crashed the stolen truck into the same public safety office.
