No Fairness and Justice in Safeguarding Rights: Visiting activist Ma Bo left Helpless, Driven to Death

For the past 18 years, Ma Bo, a petitioner from Heilongjiang, has been seeking justice for her son, Xu Zhipeng, who died as a result of bullying at school. Despite her efforts, she has faced setbacks along the way, including being mysteriously beaten and suffering a broken bone. During this year’s two sessions, she was kidnapped upon her arrival in Beijing. The authorities have consistently shown indifference to these incidents, leaving Ma Bo feeling helpless and frustrated. Last month, she openly expressed her desire for euthanasia to end all her suffering.

From April 14th to April 30th, various police stations in Beijing called Ma Bo more than 60 times, including stations from Fengtai District, Majiapu, Fangshan District, Yancun, and Daxing Public Security Bureau. The inquiries mostly revolved around her whereabouts, residence in Beijing, routes taken, and requests to visit the police station for discussion.

Ma Bo told a reporter from The Epoch Times that since her public statement about euthanasia, she has been under intense surveillance and received frequent calls from the police. She stated, “I am currently under constant surveillance in Beijing, and even when I leave the city, they continue to track my movements.”

“Under the vast sky, I have suffered a series of appalling illegal infringements, and the inaction of the Xiluoyuan Police Station in Beijing has plunged me into an abyss of endless despair!”

On February 28, 2025, at 8 a.m., a group of thugs ambushed Ma Bo at Building 7, Zone 2 of Xiluoyuan, Beijing. They violently pushed her to the ground, stole her phone, wheelchair, watch, and concealed the license plate of their black car. After being kidnapped to Jiamusi, she was held captive in a dark hotel room for nearly a month.

“During this time, I felt like a trapped animal, subjected to inhuman torture, resulting in both physical and mental trauma that made me wish for death.”

After her release, Ma Bo went to the Xiluoyuan Police Station on March 30 to file a report, but was told that it was a government matter and not suitable for a case. She stated, “According to Article 112 of the Criminal Procedure Law, if the police refuse to file a case, they should provide a notice of refusal and explain the reasons. Ignoring such a heinous case is tantamount to condoning criminals and disrespecting fairness and justice.”

On September 17, 2023, while traveling on a bus in Beijing, Ma Bo was inexplicably assaulted by an unknown man named Qiao Minglian, resulting in a broken foot that left her reliant on a wheelchair for mobility. Despite promptly reporting the incident and obtaining a medical assessment, the Xiluoyuan Police Station only acted upon Ma Bo’s repeated requests. They later claimed that Qiao Minglian’s mental illness prevented them from holding him accountable.

Ma Bo raised multiple queries with the police, accusing them of dereliction of duty. When she asked about the progress of the case and requested to accompany the police to the prosecutor’s office for clarification, the officer hesitated to comply. She questioned, “After nearly 700 days, why hasn’t any action been taken in the assault case? Qiao Minglian was released on bail pending trial, which has long since expired, yet the police station has not pursued it. This blatant disregard for the law not only undermines legal provisions but also challenges the authority of the law.”

Ma Bo further questioned, “Why are both the assault and kidnapping cases occurring in the jurisdiction of the Xiluoyuan Police Station? The deliberate inaction of the station in handling these cases raises suspicions. Who is orchestrating these behind-the-scenes manipulations?” Confronted with the station’s negligence, Ma Bo believes that it has severely damaged the credibility of law enforcement agencies and trampled on the bottom line of fairness and justice.

“I strongly demand that the relevant leaders of Xiluoyuan Police Station come forward, explain their actions under the scrutiny of the public and be broadcasted live in solemn court proceedings across the nation. If they continue to ignore my plight, flagrantly disregard the dignity of the law, they will face the contempt of the people and the judgment of history,” she declared.
