On the evening of January 10, 2025, newly elected District Three San Francisco City Councilor Danny Sauter held his community inauguration ceremony at the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club. The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by city attorney David Chiu.
The ceremony began with a vibrant performance of Chinese cultural dances, showcasing the energy of District Three. Sauter highlighted the significance of choosing the SF Italian Athletic Club as the venue, symbolizing the best face of the district.
In front of over 500 witnesses including his pregnant wife, parents, elected officials, community leaders, and Chinese residents, Sauter solemnly took his oath to support and defend the United States Constitution and the California State Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. He pledged loyalty to uphold the constitutions and fulfill his duties representing the Third District in San Francisco.
During his emotional speech, Sauter expressed gratitude and thanks to everyone who supported him, including his family members who inspired his journey into public service.
He paid tribute to his mother, a high school teacher dedicated to the community, and his father, a labor lawyer who worked tirelessly advocating for better wages and working conditions for bus drivers, nurses, and teachers. Sauter also acknowledged his wife Chelsea’s unwavering support throughout his campaign and community work.
Sauter shared his excitement about the upcoming birth of their daughter, who he referred to as the baby of the Third District and North Beach, to grow up surrounded by Italian focaccia bread, Chinese dim sum, and community meetings.
Quoting former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Sauter emphasized the generational responsibility and the transformative potential of their era in San Francisco. He outlined his commitment to creating public spaces, supporting the homeless population, protecting single room occupancy residents in Chinatown, and advocating for small businesses while implementing a zero-tolerance policy against attacks on Asian elders.
Sauter’s vision includes revitalizing vacant storefronts, improving cleanliness, increasing waste bins, and supporting schools in North Beach and Russian Hill to foster community prosperity. He emphasized that the success of District Three is essential for the overall success of San Francisco.
Newly elected Mayor Daniel Lurie praised Sauter as a symbol of change and introduced the new City Council President Rafael Mandelman. The unified support for the newly elected council members highlighted a collective commitment to service and transparency for the city.
Mandelman expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Sauter and the newly elected officials to bring positive changes to San Francisco. The diverse composition of the new council members signifies a promising shift towards improved governance and service delivery for all residents.
In the November election, Sauter garnered 9,965 votes, securing his position as the City Councilor for San Francisco’s District Three. The district encompasses Chinatown, the Financial District, Union Square, Fisherman’s Wharf, Lower Nob Hill, and Russian Hill. As a hub for Bay Area Chinese communities, popular tourist destinations, economic activities, and the historical birthplace of San Francisco, District Three plays a crucial role in shaping the city’s future.
