The acting director of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Todd Lyons, recently criticized the government of New York for issuing commercial driver’s licenses (CDL) to undocumented immigrants with unspecified names. In a shocking case, a male undocumented immigrant from India was found to be holding a driver’s license with the name “No Name Given”.
According to reports from the New York Post and Fox News, the Indian undocumented immigrant named Anmol Anmol was discovered last month during a routine inspection at a truck checkpoint on Interstate 40 in Oklahoma, holding a commercial driver’s license issued by the state of New York. The license only displayed the surname “Anmol” in the name field, with the first and middle name sections stating “No Name Given”, and prominently featuring the “REAL ID” symbol.
The REAL ID allows the holder to travel domestically by flight or access federal facilities without the need for a passport.
In an interview on Fox News, ICE acting director Lyons exclaimed, “This is truly outrageous! Just imagine, a driver’s license with ‘No Name Given’ issued by a state government, and marked with a REAL ID. It’s simply unbelievable.”
The Department of Homeland Security stated that Anmol Anmol illegally entered the United States in 2023 during the Biden administration and has since been arrested and placed in removal proceedings. The New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) confirmed to the media that the license, issued on April 14 of this year and valid until May 26, 2028, is genuine, but did not disclose how it was obtained.
Lyons criticized sanctuary state policies for opening the door to anonymous individuals and pointed out that “these CDL drivers sometimes transport hazardous materials or unknown goods, posing a threat to public safety”.
He also mentioned a case in Florida in April, where an Indian driver named Harjinder Singh drove an 18-wheeler on a highway, causing a fatal accident that resulted in the death of three Haitian immigrants. While Singh had obtained licenses and work permits in California and Washington state, he had not previously passed English language and road sign tests.
“How many American citizens have lost their lives due to such drivers? It’s truly dangerous,” emphasized Lyons, stating that Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is collaborating with state police and federal law enforcement agencies to investigate these problematic licenses and ensure they no longer circulate in the market.
