After being formally charged by federal authorities on Thursday (September 26), New York City Mayor Adam Adams confidently stood in front of the public, denying all allegations and refusing to resign. This has shifted the spotlight to his prominent lawyer, Alex Spiro, known for representing celebrities such as actor Alec Baldwin, singer Jay-Z, and billionaire Elon Musk.
Spiro, a Harvard Law School graduate, is not only experienced in sports and entertainment litigation but also specializes in investigations, government enforcement, and white-collar criminal defense. He has previously served as a Manhattan prosecutor and helped convict the serial killer Rodney Alcala in the infamous 2013 “Dating Game” case.
Adams is facing federal charges including bribery, soliciting donations from foreign nationals, and wire fraud, spanning a decade of allegedly illegal bribery activities.
Spiro has requested Mayor Adams to appear in court as early as Friday (27th).
“There is no corruption. This is not a real case, we will see everyone in court, hopefully tomorrow and not on Monday,” Spiro told reporters outside the Grace Building on Thursday. “Look at those plane tickets, those expenses, the three free trips mentioned were in 2017, 7 years ago, before Adams became mayor 5 years ago, there is no inappropriate, wrong, or illegal behavior here.”
He emphasized that shifting stories from years ago onto the 2021 mayoral campaign is meant to “mislead” and “sully.”
