In an effort to rally support ahead of the New York state primary elections, New York City Mayor Eric Adams made an appearance in Flushing on June 15th in support of incumbent State Assemblyman Ron Kim in the 40th district. The campaign event drew a large crowd and featured several elected officials including Mayor Adams, State Senators John Liu, Ramos, State Assemblyman Ron Kim, as well as Peter Du, Chief Consultant of the Flushing Chinese Business Association (FCBA).
With the sun beating down overhead, the officials and community leaders gathered in front of the Flushing Library, urging voters to participate in the early voting period spanning nine days leading up to June 25th, the official primary election day, and to cast their votes for Ron Kim.
Mayor Adams commended Ron Kim for his efforts in safeguarding the rights of the elderly during the pandemic, as well as his 12-year tenure in advocating for the prosperity of Flushing and the interests of the working class. Adams stated, “We need Ron Kim in the state legislature, he is a son of this community, from introducing Asian language programs in schools to ensuring important holidays are recognized, and making sure children receive quality education, he has proven to be a tested leader.”
Ron Kim shared his personal experiences, stating, “I have raised three children here, and also bid farewell to my parents here.” He emphasized that he is the representative for the 40th district of the State Assembly who can uphold community safety, protect small businesses, and care for children and the elderly. Despite negative information circulating about him, he emphasized that the key to this election lies in “trust.”
A graduate of Baruch College with a Master’s in Public Administration, Ron Kim was first elected as the State Assemblyman for the 40th district in 2012 and currently serves as the Chair of the State Assembly’s Aging Committee. The 40th district includes central Flushing, Linden Hill, Murray Hill, and East Flushing among other areas.
