New York Chinese Rally for Soo-Oozey, Meng Zhaowen Urges to Vote

Less than three weeks away from the presidential election and general election on November 5, the candidates are intensifying their campaign efforts. On October 12, the Chinese community in the northeast Queens area of Bayside held a rally to support the re-election campaign of the incumbent Congressman Tom Suozzi in the Third Congressional District.

Having won the special election in the Third Congressional District back in February, Democratic Congressman Tom Suozzi is now facing a challenge from Republican candidate Mike Lipetri in the upcoming November 5 congressional election.

Chinese-American Congressman Grace Meng, Korean-American City Council Member Linda Lee, along with Wayne Hsiung, a former candidate for Long Island County Legislator, joined nearly a hundred Chinese supporters in enthusiastically chanting “Suozzi for the win.” Suozzi and Meng urged voters to participate actively on the election day of November 5.

Suozzi emphasized public safety, education, addressing border immigration issues, the impact of inflation, and advocating for reducing local taxes, all of which are closely related to the lives of the Chinese community.

Having previously served as the Congressman for the Third District for several years, Suozzi lost the race for governor in 2022. His position was then taken over by Republican candidate Sanders, who was later ousted due to election fraud. This left a vacancy, which Suozzi filled by winning the special election in February this year.

The Third Congressional District covers parts of the North Shore of Long Island in Nassau County and the northeast Queens area, with a population of approximately 800,000 people, of which Asians make up 14.6%. There are about 570,000 registered voters, with around 44,000 Chinese-American voters.

Election Day is on November 5, with early voting taking place from October 26 to November 3.
