New York Chinese man arrested for using fake documents to fraudulently get a loan to buy a Mercedes-Benz

Recently, a 38-year-old Chinese man named Lin Han from Jilin was arrested at a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Greenwich, Connecticut, on suspicion of using forged documents to obtain car loans. Lin Han is accused of using fake driver’s licenses and ID cards to purchase six cars worth over $500,000 without making any payments. It was discovered by the authorities that these loans were obtained through stolen or altered personal documents.

According to police investigations, Lin Han is a member of a fraudulent group in Queens that specializes in fraudulent car purchases using fake documents. The Greenwich Police Department in Connecticut began investigating at the end of 2021 after receiving reports from dealerships and tracked six car purchases involving five different buyers. Authorities noted that Lin Han’s activities at the dealership were captured on surveillance video, including footage of him with a white dog.

Lin Han faces two charges of first-degree theft, two charges of second-degree forgery, two charges of first-degree identity theft, one conspiracy charge, and one misdemeanor criminal impersonation charge. Due to his inability to pay the $200,000 bail, he is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court on June 28.

Connecticut law enforcement officials stated that Lin Han received $700 for his participation in a local car fraud operation, while another buyer contacted by the police claimed that Lin Han was involved in a fraudulent sale in Greenwich to repay a $40,000 gambling debt owed to an underground betting syndicate.
